A woman who suffered a quadruple amputation at age four after contracting meningitis has beaten her chances of becoming a mother. Danielle Bailey lost her legs and hands after contracting meningitis when she was just four years old. Her parents were told that she had no chance of survival. Danielle Bailey was given a percentage chance of survival and she grew up believing that she would never find love due to her appearance, after losing both her hands and legs. But now, she has everything she ever wanted. A loving companion and a beautiful eleven week old baby teddy.

Danielle said: “I always wanted to be a mom, but I never thought it would happen. At school, all my friends started dating and I didn’t. I didn’t think I’d ever find love let alone a baby the way I look. But as I got older, I accepted my appearance and realized that there will be someone who loves me for who I am. In October 2019, she met Tom Twist, 34, in a pub. He didn’t care that she was an amputee, and instantly she showed him what her true love is. When she found out that she was pregnant, Danielle herself admits to feeling ‘anxious’. she feared what other people might think and she worried in case she couldn’t manage without her hands.

But now that he’s here, the self-taught makeup artist couldn’t imagine her life without him. She said: “I was worried in case people questioned my upbringing as I am an amputee. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to take care of him. But as soon as he came into the world, I knew I could do it. Everything came naturally. Giving birth was the hardest thing I’ve ever done because I didn’t know what to expect. I was worried about bringing teddy into the world but he’s been fine. I have never let my disability hold me back. teddy has made me realize how precious life is. I can’t imagine life without him. He has made me feel more secure than ever. Now I am happy and my main goal is to be the best mother I can be and make sure he has a good life”.

Danielle also praises her supportive partner for stepping up and being a fantastic parent. she says that parenthood has been a defining chapter in their lives. And everyone in her hometown is happy for her. she adds: “I’ve gotten nothing but compliments from people. I am always happy to help anyone who is thinking about having a baby but is concerned about her disability. I am living proof that you can do it.”
