For most people, flooded streets mean staying indoors. But for Bo, navigating the water was as easy as pulling out his surfboard.

About a year ago, when a powerful storm swept the streets of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, resembling a river bed, Peter Rosen tried to teach his dog to ride waves. Rosen wants Bo to remember his surfing skills when the streets flood again recently.

Rosen told The Dodo: “We got the board out and he immediately remembered it and jumped on it right away.”

Neighbor Rachel Frank was trying to walk her dog across a flooded sidewalk when she saw Rosen and Bo preparing to ride the wind and waves. When he returned from the walk, ten had been hung in the street.

“I couldn’t stop laughing and filming,” Frank told The Dodo. “My dog was with me and he just wanted to jump and play.”

Initially, Rosen tried to teach Bo how to surf in the ocean, but the small waves in South Florida weren’t enough to propel the board.

Soon, Rosen discovers that the flooded streets may be better suited to Bo’s abilities. He begins to teach Bo by manually pulling Bo through the water. Slowly but surely, Bo found a balance. Eventually, they added electric bikes.

“He’s very talented,” Rosen said.

Anything that brings him closer to Rosen would be a good idea for Po, who was adopted after Rosen found him in the Cayman Islands about three years ago. Rosen and her husband met Bo on a vacation and Bo’s previous owner was no longer able to care for him. They took Bo on an excursion around the island and he adjusted. Soon, Bo was officially adopted and his adventure continues to this day.

Surfing isn’t Bo’s only unique form of transportation. He can often be seen riding in the sidecar of Rosen’s Vespa or curled up in the kennel as Rosen’s skateboard.

“He was very passionate about everything I wanted to do,” Rosen said. “He just wanted to be with me.”
