My child was born without legs. I had a cesarean delivery because he had no legs to push himself out, and immediately after his birth, I went into a coma due to the excruciating pain I had endured. When I woke up from the coma, the doctors didn’t inform me about my child, but I later discovered that he had no legs.

He moves by crawling, and he’s adapted to this method because he has no other option. He has developed his own strategies to assist him in daily activities. Despite his lack of legs, it doesn’t hinder him from interacting with other young children his age. This is why children adore him. They feel empathy for him and are always around, ready to play with him

All these children are ready to support him in case he faces any challenges. They love him dearly. There’s even a ten-year-old who shares his pocket money to buy candies for him. These children actively want to be a part of my son’s life, and he also enjoys their companionship.

My son is well-known for not having any legs. Whenever he goes out on the street, many people tend to stare at him, causing quite a commotion.

My son’s favorite game is tennis. However, when he sees other children playing football, he joins them and kicks the ball while seated. He even practices some gymnastics

Activities

He’s not a lazy boy, despite having no legs. He actively engages in various activities and helps his mother with tasks like sweeping the compound, washing dishes, doing laundry, and fetching water. Even when he visits neighbors, he’s eager to assist with mopping and any other task he can handle. He can even light the charcoal stove.

When I gave birth to him, I was shocked and asked myself, “Why me?” Other mothers who were present came to me and said, “If I were you, I wouldn’t breastfeed this boy so he won’t grow. If you let him grow, you will suffer your whole life.” They told me that this boy would always be bedridden, never go anywhere, be unable to control his bodily functions, and I would just be feeding him. They discouraged me. But I made a firm decision to give him so much care and affection to boost his morale and confidence.

Growiпg Up

Growing up, he developed much like any other child—crying, attempting to explore. When he was around six months old, he was determined to sit up. I couldn’t find a solution at the time as I had no money to buy him a proper sitting chair. So, I dug a hole in the compound and filled it with some clothes. I placed him in that small hole, and I was always there, watching over him. Gradually, he adapted to sitting in that small hole and learned how to sit on his own. At nine months old, he started crawling. He could crawl on his belly and move out of that hole. Later, he began sitting well everywhere, not just in that hole. As the days passed, he even started walking.

Boardiпg School

Time passed, and a Catholic sister learned about the story of a child born without legs. She decided to pay us a visit, prayed with us, and left, stating that she couldn’t provide assistance but hoped for God’s blessings upon the boy. After two years, that same Catholic sister contacted us and informed us about a boarding school that catered to and educated children with disabilities. Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford the required amount of money to send our son to that school.

A month later, we managed to enroll our boy in that school. He has been there since. However, upon reaching the school, they requested fees which we couldn’t afford. The child never attended because the school was quite far, and we couldn’t afford the transportation fare for three months. They wondered if we had abandoned our own child, but it was solely due to our financial limitations.

We explained to them that we had no money to pay the required fees. At best, we could manage a visit to our son once a year, and most of the time, we failed to provide the school fees. When we had a little amount, we would make a partial payment towards the school fees, but when we had none, we simply couldn’t pay. At times, they would tell us to come and take our child back due to unpaid fees, even though the debt we owed them had grown substantial. Occasionally, they had a change of heart and allowed him to continue his education.

From his early days in nursery and baby class up to now, he’s reached primary school.

School Fees

Due to this pandemic, we haven’t been able to pay a single cent towards his school fees. It’s not because we don’t want to pay, but because we don’t have enough money to cover his fees. Before this pandemic began, we had plans to visit his school and discuss the matter with the school administration, as they continued to pressure us for payment, even though we had no means to pay. When school reopens, our son will face the risk of dropping out because we have failed to pay his school fees. However, that’s not a desirable option. Our son is fond of and eager to attend school. He now listens to news saying that school is about to reopen and asks us to prepare his school clothes. He doesn’t know that we have no choice but to keep him from attending school again.

Education for my son is of utmost importance. If I could obtain his school fees and transportation fare each time to visit him in that boarding school, I would be immensely grateful. That’s the support I need. My child deserves a quality education that will pave the way for a better future. Please assist me. This is my final hope. If not, my son will be forced to drop out of school.
