A Dubai driver spends nearly $15 million on the world’s most expensive license plate

Known as one of the most lavish and exotic cities in the world, Dubai is home to hundreds of record-breaking achievements in every sector you can think of!

Ranging from the tallest building to the deepest swimming pool for diving, Dubai is home to many superlatives.

And now, it’s added the most expensive car registration in the world to the list.

The plate number “P-7” was bought for a whopping $14.97 million (AED 55 million, £12.04m) during an auction.

The auction, held at Four Seasons Hotel Jumeirah, was for charity and was held by Emirates Auction.

Proceeds from the sale went to One Billion Meals, a campaign by the ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to help vulnerable people around the world during the holy month of Ramadan.

Multiple license plates were auctioned that night with others selling for between AED 140,000 ($38,000; £30,557) and AED 2,950,000 ($800,000; £643,885).

Most expensive car

A question that intrigues most car enthusiasts, what is the most expensive car on the planet?

The answer belongs to a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé which sold for $142 million (£115 million; €135 million) during an auction by Sotheby’s in Stuttgart, Germany.

The price, $450,312,500 (£343 million) for Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi.

It was sold at an auction in New York, USA, by Christie’s in New York. The buyer was Prince Badr bin Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

The famous painting depicts Jesus making the sign of the cross with his right hand, while holding a crystal orb in his left, signalling his role as Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World).

Most expensive watch sold at auction

At a price tag of 31 million Swiss francs ($33.6 million; £24.3 million), a one-off stainless-steel edition of the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A, grabs the title for the world’s most expensive watch sold at auction.

The record-breaking bid was held at the Only Watch auction at Christie’s in Geneva, Switzerland, with 99% of the proceeds used to fund research into muscular dystrophy.
