Hanno, a 43-year-old consultant who recently had this unique experience while visiting Kruger National Park, shared it with LatestSightings.com.
“After a morning filled with lion and leopard sightings, the pace of the day slowed down. I decided to switch things up and focus on something other than cats. That’s when I came across a rare sighting of a starling fighting what appeared to be a worm.”
Starlings are a group of birds found throughout the world, with more than 100 different species. They are known for their ability to imitate sounds. Starlings are usually small to medium-sized with a distinct lack and iridescent coloring or purple plumage. They are social birds and often congregate in large flocks.
“Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a small snake. I pulled out her camera and tried to focus on the action, but the third one was too fast to capture on video. The serpent moved and struggled, but to no avail.”
What is the lifespan of a starling?
The average lifespan of a glossy starling is between 15 and 20 years.
When it comes to their eating habits, starlings are known to be ominous, which means they will eat anything. They have a varied diet that includes insects, fruits, seeds, and even small animals such as ice. Starlings have a unique feeding technique in which they use their beaks to outline the ground and dig up insects.

“In the end, the starling wrapped the snake in its beak and began to feed on it. Unfortunately for the little snake, it was the end. So it’s true that the third early worm gets the worm, but it’s also true that the early worm is eaten, and that was the case with this snake.”
“My advice to anyone going on safari is to take a close look at the environment around you. While the cats are fantastic, there are plenty of other things to see if you take the time to look. A chameleon stalking an insect, a kingfisher searching for fish, or the chicks of the smallest birds in the park can be fascinating sightings.”
