Roland Adam, 54, a property developer, and his wife Edit, 44, a bank employee, raised a pair of breeding Vietnamese pigs in Hoerstel, Germany, in 2009. They had a litter of five in Adam’s woodland. Then Roland discovered Paulinchen, a two-week-old small pot-bellied pig who was all alone and freezing. He carried her home because he was scared foxes might chase her down when night fell.

Adam’s rescued dog, Katjinga, an eight-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, had recently finished with her own ten-month-old litter, so Roland assumed the mother canine could care for the piglet. Surprisingly, he was correct. Katjinga fell in love with Paulinchen right away and pampered her as if she were family.

The two creatures shared a massive 20-acre farm, one of Adam’s possessions. When the baby was hungry, the wolfing mother cleaned her bacon and gave her milk. Paulinchen nuzzled up to her adoptive mother after she had finished her meal and had a good night’s sleep. The enormous farm dog and the little piglet nestled up as though they were mother dog and piggy baby.

The tale about the lucky piglet that went viral at the time was charming and touching. Internet viewers are captivated by the pooch’s maternal love and compassion. They were mainly heartened, but some were concerned about the tiny piggy girl growing up believing she was a dog.
