At GWR HQ, the Harlem Globetrotters break a first-ever non-basketball record

The Harlem Globetrotters are no newcomers to the record breaking world.

Over the years, they’ve worked with Guinness World Records on setting multiple world records on the basketball court.

But, they’ve never set a record outside the realms of basketball… Until now.

Players Torch George and Scooter Christensen (both USA) visited the offices of Guinness World Records in London, UK, and joined forces to set a new record for the fastest time to bounce a ping pong ball into 5 cups (team of two) with a time of 2.18 seconds.

They initially tried the challenge individually but after doing three failed attempts each, they decided to give the record a go as a team.

And their time of 2.18 seconds was officially verified off camera by our team, smashing the previous record held by David Rush and Jonathan Hannon (both USA) of 2.87 seconds.

This was the first time the Harlem Globetrotters had set a record in the United Kingdom, as well as being the first record that didn’t involve a basketball in some capacity.

The pair also valiantly attempted other records including the fastest time to clear a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos and most ping pong balls bounced into a cup in one minute but were unsuccessful.

Torch was the first female Globetrotter to hold a Guinness World Records title when set the record for most basketball under the leg tumbles in one minute (female) where she managed 32.

Scooter is a previous record holder also: back in 2015, he held the record for the longest duration spinning a basketball on the nose.

The Harlem Globetrotters are a touring basketball team, having played in exhibition matches for nearly 100 years around the globe.

Normally, the team of superstars goes up against the Washington Generals and are undefeated against their rivals since 1971!

They visited our London office to promote their world tour, which reaches the UK at the end of April 2023.
