Incredible moment a hungry 10 foot long python devours a giant bird whole

The extraordinary moment a 10-foot-long python feasted on a great white cockatoo has been captured in Far North Queensland.

Cairns local Gary Montagner snapped the snake dangling from the gutters of his Mooroobool home as it widened its jaw to slowly digest the bird.

‘Nature’s circle of life caught on camera!’ posted Montagner, adding that the nearby squawking cockatoos that can be heard in the background of the video were “distressed” and remained in the trees, too scared to venture near the reptile.

It took around two hours for the python to completely consume the hapless white cockatoo. The top of the python’s neck can be seen as it begins to devour what appears to be a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, a process that Montagner says took two hours. “We knew that a python would sometimes enter our roof,” Montagner told Daily Mail Australia. They go in where the roof meets the gutter, through a one-inch hole. “Then they wait by the bird feeder,” he continued. ‘The roosters often tell each other if there is a python in the area. “The biggest python I had ever seen in my house was six or seven meters long.” Certain species of python have been known to eat kangaroo-sized animals in this part of Australia.

The 10-foot-long python is nearing the end of its two-hour digestion of the big bird. Most common in the Cairns region is the Aéthystine python, a non-venomous variety that can grow to between 5 and 8.5 in size. meters and lives on birds and small mammals. “A neighbor of ours had her cat taken by a python,” Montanger said. “We have small dogs, but the snakes don’t seem to go after the dogs as much.” This particular specimen demonstrates a perfect technique for killing pythons: it coils itself around its prey and squeezes it until it suffocates, a process known as constriction. “We like animals,” Montagner said. “We don’t want [the python] to be killed or removed, it’s just part of nature up here.”
