When High-Flying Luxury Hits the Road: Unveiling the Breathtaking Conversion of a Learjet into a Street-Legal Limousine
If you thought a limousine or a private jet alone was extravagant enough, get ready to have your mind blown. Imagine combining the two into a single vehicle. Well, someone on Earth has actually done just that with the creation of the Learmousine—a Learjet that has been transformed into a limousine. This mind-boggling prototype is set to be auctioned at Mecum Auctions’ upcoming Indy 2020 sales event, proving that it’s more than just an April Fool’s Day prank.
The Limo-Jet, as it is officially known, started its life as a regional aircraft manufactured by Learjet, measuring a staggering 42 feet in length. However, designer Dan Harris from Oregon had a brilliant idea to ground this aircraft and turn it into a one-of-a-kind creation. After two years of intensive research and development, and with the help of Chicago-based Exotic Coach overseeing 40,000 man-hours of work, the Limo-Jet finally made its public debut during the summer of 2018.
To give it a flashy appearance, the Limo-Jet was finished in a candy red color. Its aluminum fuselage now sits on a custom-made steel frame. The vehicle boasts several brand-new components, including a rear engine bay, drivetrain, suspension, and computer systems, all of which are patent-pending. Riding on custom 28-inch red-and-black Diablo wheels with Kumho 325/25R28 tires, this rear-wheel-drive behemoth is powered by an 8.1-liter Chevrolet V8 engine that generates a whopping 400 horsepower.
Stepping inside the Limo-Jet, you’ll find the driver’s seat positioned in front of a four-spoke steering wheel and a Chevy Silverado instrument cluster. Four screens provide different views of the surroundings outside the vehicle. As for the interior, it resembles a luxurious Vegas nightclub, complete with neon lights, an infinity floor, a flat-screen TV, a 17,000-watt sound system, and a total of 18 seats—enough to accommodate a large group of people.
Mecum Auctions has yet to disclose the expected auction price for the Limo-Jet, but it’s safe to assume that it will fetch a considerable sum. To sweeten the deal, the auction house is even throwing in some additional items, such as a 44-foot 2017 Iron Bull trailer and a 2015 Chevy Silverado for towing purposes.
Whether you view the Learmousine as the epitome of excess or a magnificent feat of engineering, there’s no denying its allure. This amalgamation of luxury, aviation, and automotive prowess is a testament to human ingenuity and the willingness to push boundaries. So, keep an eye out for the Limo-Jet at the upcoming auction and see just how much someone is willing to pay for this extraordinary fusion of style and extravagance.
