The legendary Brazilian football player Marcelo revealed that he had discussed the prospect of joining Al-Nassr with his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Marcelo eventually decided to return to his Brazilian origins despite getting offers, one of which came from the Saudi Arabian club where Ronaldo presently plays.
Marcelo, who left Olympiacos in February as a free agent, had drawn interest from a number of teams, including Al-Nassr. The conversation with Al-Nassr’s Ronaldo brought up the friendship they developed during their winning Real Madrid seasons. Marcelo, 35, however, decided to travel back to Brazil because he had a strong urge to return to his native country.
Unexpectedly, Marcelo triumphantly returned to Fluminense, the team he played for as a youngster, earlier this year. He made a play that turned out to be a dream come true, helping Fluminense defeat Boca Juniors 2-1 and win their first-ever Copa Libertadores championship.
Marcelo is now excited about Fluminense’s upcoming domestic difficulties and hopes to harness his success on the continental stage and expertise to lead the squad to more league victories. Marcelo is expected to play a key role in Fluminense’s quest for victory when they take on Sao Paulo on November 23.
