Messi officially says goodbye to 5 teammates at Inter Miami

Inter Miami are rebuilding their squad to prepare for a title race in 2025, and Lionel Messi is sure to remain a key part of the starting lineup.

Recently, the Inter Miami Club homepage announced the list of players who will continue to be with the team next season.

Accordingly, the MLS Supporters’ Shield champions have decided to extend the contracts of seven players, including Jordi Alba, a close friend of superstar Lionel Messi, and right-back Marcelo Weigandt. Meanwhile, the team did not extend the contracts of six other players, among them, Matías Rojas and Oscar Ustari are being considered for new contracts.

Previously, in November, The Herons also successfully extended the contract of Luis Suarez, the team’s top scorer last season with 25 goals. After an outstanding performance, the Uruguayan striker was rewarded by the MLS giant with a one-year contract.

Finally, Inter Miami fans still feel assured that superstar Lionel Messi will continue to be with the team next season. The Argentine player is the most important factor in Inter Miami’s playing style when contributing 20 goals and 16 assists in 19 appearances, thereby helping the team win the MLS Supporters’ Shield for the first time with a record score.

The former Barca star is currently under contract with Inter Miami until December next year, and there have been reports that Jorge Mas, the team’s co-owner, has expressed his desire to keep him until December 2026.
