Messi scores two goals in just four minutes
Lionel Messi is far from being past his prime, as demonstrated by his impressive performance against Philadelphia Union on the morning of September 15
Messi quickly regained his peak form.
In the 28th round of MLS 2024, the Argentine superstar continued to shine after a long recovery from injury. From the 26th to the 30th minute, Messi scored two consecutive goals, helping Inter Miami come from behind. Philadelphia Union had taken the lead in the 3rd minute.
Both of Messi’s goals came from high-class plays, assisted by Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez. Messi showed a remarkable return to peak form, especially considering he had been out of action for nearly two months.
The last time Messi played at the top level was in the 2024 Copa America final in mid-July. Since then, the Argentine star had been sidelined with a serious injury, taking a long time to recover.
Inter Miami is currently the strongest team in MLS.
After 13 MLS matches this season, Messi has scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists, achieving an incredible performance rate. Inter Miami continued their strong form by crushing Philadelphia Union at home, with Suarez scoring the final goal in the 90+8th minute, sealing a 3-1 victory.
After 28 rounds of the 2024 MLS season, Inter Miami leads the Eastern Conference standings with 62 points, 10 points ahead of second-placed Cincinnati. They are also 10 points ahead of the Western Conference leaders, LA Galaxy (Inter Miami has played one game less).
With only 6 rounds remaining in the regular MLS season, Inter Miami holds a significant advantage in the race for the MLS Supporters’ Shield, awarded to the team with the most points (across both the Eastern and Western Conferences) after 34 rounds.
