Every year, besides the more serious awards such as the Wildlife Photographer of the Year, there is also an award called Comedy Wildlife Photographer. True to its name, this award is given to wild photos of a funny, fun nature. These works both inspire love of nature and convey messages in a playful and witty way.
Launched in 2015, this award was founded by photographer with a big heart for animals, living in East Africa for more than 30 years – Paul Joynson – Hicks.
“Remain calm, and remember to keep your head up too” – photographer Martin Grace
The photo was taken at a rather “distracting” angle and was described by the author as: “Two king penguins from the Falklands. The bird on the right has an unreadable expression, but it must be wondering where its head is. Where’s your friend?”
If you feel a little scared, don’t worry. King penguins have quite flexible necks and can sometimes tilt their heads back like that.
“Fight back” – photographer John Chaney
In an effort to fight off a giant, greedy natural enemy with unparalleled strength, this salmon is using all its strength to show the bear what pain is.
“Crowded” – photographer Mark Schocken
In this scene, the extremely scowling owl is the mother, and the one with the big, half-open eyes below is the baby owl. The author says this moment lasted only a few seconds, when the owl was twisting curiously out into the world and receiving the uncooperative attitude of its mother.
“Jack jumped” – photographer Alex Pansier
This squirrel is jumping in the rainstorm, so there are water droplets around. We also have to applaud for the photographer’s ability to capture the moment, when taking care of us is full of strength and great satisfaction.
“Sorry… Excuse me!” – photographer Ryan Sims
This duckling is carefree stepping on the “bridge” made of a flock of turtles. What’s more funny is that he immediately fell down after just stepping over a few turtles.
“I strangle you now!” – photographer Emmanuel Do Linh San
Linh San said he was in a South African national park when this humorous scene took place. These ferrets are always hilarious, and this is a typical moment. These 2 ferrets are not actually fighting, they are just joking around. The funny thing is that the “victim” has a facial expression like a stupid friend being teased.
“Pegasus Flying Horse” – photographer Jagdeep Rajput
Photographer captured the moment a Sarus crane attacked a wildebeest as the wildebeest strayed into its territory and threatened its eggs. The effect creates an image as if an antelope grows wings, making the author think of the mythical creature Pegasus.
“Hello everyone” – photographer Miroslav Srb
After feeding this raccoon with shrimp, the photographer was greeted by it with a friendly smile. Amateurs also know how to pose!
“Tell the fin here” – photographer Jennifer Hadley
A penguin is showing a “disgusting” attitude to his friend on the beach in the Falklands Islands.
Overall Winner: “Reflexes Aren’t Cat-Like” by Jennifer Hadley
The lion belongs to the cat family, yes, but this lion is young and very green! The author recounts this 3-month-old lion cub playing with his siblings around a tree. The little guy was trying to find his way down, but unfortunately landed “face down”. Thankfully it’s okay, but there’s more to the cat family’s skills.
