Lionel Messi’s wife has awkward moment with teammate after MLS debut

After Inter Miami’s victory on Saturday night, Lionel Messi’s wife may have confused him for Inter Miami teammate Jordi Alba.

Antonela Roccuzzo, Messi’s girlfriend of 15 years, came on to the field to congratulate the star player, but instead ran into the Spanish left back.
Alba has spent the majority of his career with Messi’s former squad Barcelona, so the two were already familiar with each other before joining together again this summer in Miami. A spectator filmed the funny moment, and it quickly went viral online.
Messi made his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut with Inter Miami in their triumph over the New York Red Bulls, hitting the game-winning goal in the 89th minute.

When they were nine years old, Messi and Roccuzzo met and became fast friends in Messi’s hometown of Rosario. Seven years later, when Messi had already begun his professional career in Barcelona, the two reconnected.

According to reports, Messi and his family have already made themselves at home in Miami, where they purportedly own two properties. Since joining the team, he has netted eleven goals, including the game-winning goal in the MLS opener against the New York Red Bulls.
The squad, led by Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, won the first MLS Leagues Cup at the midseason break and is now hoping to make up ground after starting the season at the very bottom of the Eastern Conference table.

The squad is now in 14th place, 11 points away from the final playoff berth. They will need to go on a winning streak if they want to extend their season.

With the MLS break behind them, Inter Miami return to action on Wednesday against Nashville SC at DRV PNK Stadium. Inter Miami has a full MLS schedule ahead of them over the next few weeks.

After that, they’ll hop on a plane and head west to face Los Angeles FC on September 3.
