It’s graduation season once again, and many deserving students are receiving their diplomas and celebrating years of hard work. But among the graduates of Seton Hall University there was an unexpected and charming expression.
Justin, a service dog belonging to graduate student Grace Mariani, took the stage to receive an honors degree after helping his owner in classes for the past four years.
Grace, from Mahwah, New Jersey, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, according to the institution. Justin stayed by his owner’s side at all times, accompanying her to all her classes.
When Grace, who is wheelchair bound, earned her degree on stage at Newark’s Prudential Center, Justin stole the show by accompanying her – and receiving his own honorary degree!
Seton Hall President Joseph E. Nyre handed the rolled title to the friendly dog, who eagerly grabbed it between his teeth.
Grace aspires to teach elementary school and special education, according to Gray News/TMX, and will have her devoted dog Justin by her side at all times.
