Harpy eagles are one of the largest and most powerful birds of prey in the world.

Harpy eagles are known to be ferocious and peculiar birds. His features include an expressive face and a feather crown. This bird with its striking appearance will surely take your breath away. Its majestic nature is not the only impressive thing about this bird.

Even his wingspan and height will surely impress you. This beautiful bird stands up to 3 feet 5 inches tall. The harpy eagle’s wingspan reaches up to 7 feet 4 inches. Some humans have even compared the harpy eagle to a Pokémon. Others declare that its appearance is similar to that of a person dressed as a bird.

These birds live in the rainforests of America and have managed to gain a lot of popularity among humans due to their outstanding size and fascinating appearance. The harpy eagle is larger compared to the bald eagle. Bald eagles weigh about 12 pounds, while harpy eagles weigh between 13 and 20 pounds. Both males and females of the species sport grey, black and white plumage.

The raised feathers on their head give them a bewildered appearance. This bird of prey has large claws and those claws are 5 inches long and are considered the largest in the bird kingdom. With talons as big as this, it’s no wonder the harpy eagle is at the top of its food chain.

This bird feeds mainly on sloths, deer and even monkeys. However, their diet is not limited to these animals. They have great eyesight and amazing flight abilities, allowing them to easily identify and eliminate tree-dwelling prey. The claws are very useful when hunting prey and allow them to pick up prey weighing around 17 pounds from the ground. Unfortunately, there are fewer than 50,000 harpy eagles currently in the world. It is our duty and responsibility to conserve these majestic creatures to ensure their existence.
