Undoubtedly, being a mother is one of the most wonderful gifts that life can give you. It is also true that while hundreds of pregnant women dream of the long-awaited moment of holding their baby in their arms, they also fear the challenging moment of giving birth.
Many would prefer to have a cesarean section to avoid experiencing the excruciating pain of bringing a child into the world; others are content with an epidural because they know that once they have their baby, all the suffering will be forgotten.
But what if what you bring into the world is not a tiny baby that fits in the palm of your hand, but rather a practically 2-year-old child weighing a powerful 6 kilograms?
Ouch… What pain! It seems unbelievable, but that’s what happened to the proud mom, Chrissy Corbitt, who welcomed a 6-kilogram baby girl. Yes, you heard it right, SIX KILOGRAMS, almost double the average weight of a baby girl, at the Orange Park Medical Center in Florida.
Chrissy compared the size of her baby Carleigh to that of a small child and had to donate all the clothes she had bought for the newborn, instead buying everything new as if for a 9-month-old baby. What a crazy situation!
“When the doctor pulled her out, I could hear everyone laughing and getting excited in the operating room,” said Chrissy.
“They were tallying up the numbers, and when they showed her to me, they said: 6 kilograms… I couldn’t believe it!”
“It felt like they pulled out a small child from my womb. She is so big!”
Chrissy, who called upon photographer Debbye Benson, known as Sweet Smiles, to document this special occasion, gave birth to her fourth child. And although it was a surprise to the doctors, Chrissy had already suspected it.
It seems she is an expert at giving birth to “super babies.” In fact, her first two children weighed 4 and 4.5 kilograms at birth, so during her fourth pregnancy, she imagined her baby would be born with a similar weight, but she was mistaken.
Her husband Larry, who was eagerly awaiting the delivery, recalled:
“Her belly was so huge that they expected Chrissy to give birth to twins.”
“Oh my God, she will weigh 7 kilograms.” I remember the doctor saying, “I don’t think this baby is going to end. Are there two of them?”
“Her cheeks were so chubby, and she was so plump. She is so beautiful, of course,” said the proud dad.
The most striking thing is that Carleigh could have been even heavier. She arrived one week before her due date, which means that if she had arrived on time, she would have weighed 7 kilograms, as the doctors had predicted.
“It was all very crazy. Chrissy wasn’t gaining any weight during the last three weeks of her pregnancy. It was just Carleigh who kept gaining and gaining,” said Larry.
While giving birth to Carleigh may not have been her biggest obstacle, it was certainly a challenge for any mother. Moreover, 27% of Chrissy’s body was covered in burns after a fire devastated her kitchen. The mother of four also suffered from severe anemia during her pregnancy, but she managed to overcome the delivery without complications.
“Now both of them are doing well. My wife is a warrior after everything she has been through,” concluded Chrissy’s husband.
Dr. Eric Edelenbos, who attended to Chrissy, stated that Carleigh is the largest baby he has ever delivered into the world.
It’s wonderful to know that, despite her size, Carleigh entered the world happy and healthy. After seeing a baby like her, if you’re not yet a mother, does it still inspire you?
