Archaeologists were recently surprised to discover a tomb of the “superwoman” of the Ming Dynasty in Nanjing, China. Another special thing is that her tomb is full of precious jewelry and all made from pure gold.
Through preliminary inspection, experts discovered that this 500-year-old tomb contains two steles revealing the identity of the owner of the tomb – Lady Mei – one of the three wives of the ruler of the ancient Yunnan land. .
The numbers on Chinese tombstones reveal that Lady Mei died in 1474 at the age of 45. It is known that Lady Mei had been married since she was 15 years old and lived with her husband for the rest of her life.
In the tomb, archaeologists discovered a box filled with gold rings, perfume boxes, blonde hairpins. Many of them are inlaid with precious stones such as jade, rubies, etc. These items reveal Lady Mei’s high social status at the time of her death.
Researching history books, experts also know that Lady Mei had a son named Mu Zong but died at the age of 10 months – not long after her husband passed away.
Since then, Lady Mei alone stood up to govern the family, the land ruled by her husband when her eldest child was still a baby. Lady Mei also gave many strategic military advice and reassured the tribes who always intended to oppose.
With her management, when she died, the people of Yunnan mourned and buried her grave with reverence.
Archaeologists said that although the tomb was somewhat degraded due to water infiltration, Lady Mei’s remains were still intact. Now experts are conducting further research on the remains of this rich woman.
